David Robert Jones (8 de enero de 1947 - 10 de enero de 2016), más conocido como David Bowie, fue un cantante polifacético, inclasificable dentro de un solo género, ya que su música involucra diversos estilos musicales como el rock, el pop y la música electrónica. Fue también compositor, multiinstrumentista, productor, artista plástico y actor británico, fuertemente influyente en varias generaciones. Fue un ícono de la música y uno de los músicos más influyentes de la música contemporánea.

Nació en Brixton, un área de Londres, pero creció en el pueblo de Bromley, en Kent (actualmente parte del Gran Londres). Su carrera de músico comenzó en la década de los 60 como saxofonista y vocalista de varios grupos de blues, uno con los que pudo llegar a grabar fue The Manish Boys. Su nombre artístico fue obligado debido a la popularidad de Davy Jones, de The Monkees. El apellido Bowie fue elegido en honor del famoso personaje del Far West Jim Bowie. Desde 1992 estuvo casado con la modelo Iman, con la que tuvo a su hija Alexandria, aunque fue con Angela Barnett (Angie), su anterior mujer, con quien tuvo a su hijo Zowie, ahora conocido como Duncan Jones, reciente ganador del premio BAFTA a mejor director por su opera prima "Moon".

Una de las señas de identidad más carismáticas fue la diferencia de color de su ojo izquierdo, el cual fue dañado con un compás en una pelea en el colegio.
